About Alishia

I am the Owner and Founder of Reaching My Destination Counseling Services, PLLC! I started this business in 2017 with the primary focus to help decrease the stigma attached to seeking mental health services. My passion is working in several capacities to help normalize counseling and therapy in our community.

I am a Master's level, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the state of IL. I am a graduate of Western Michigan University with a B.A. in Criminal Justice and a graduate of Governors State University with a M.A. in Community Counseling. I have been providing counseling and therapy services since 2011 and specialize in working with adult individuals and couples.

In the history of my professional career, I have worked with several populations including children, adolescents, adults, couples and families in various settings such as: probation/family court, juvenile detention, crisis hotline, schools, residential facilities, not-for-profit social service agencies, hospitals, correctional facility, outpatient community-based facility for Veterans, church affiliated programs and in private practice.

During the last couple of years, I have worked hard to grow and expand my practice in order to serve more clients! I have also streamlined my practice to reflect my niche and area of expertise which is in servicing adults and couples dealing with stress, life transition issues, anxiety, depression, trauma and relationship issues. I also am quite passionate about the need to bridge the gap between mental health services and the church. I aim to provide services in the form of consultation to church facilities and their staff on how to recognize when a person's mental health functioning may be beyond their scope of teaching. I teach them how to best assist their members with incorporating their own faith with mental health services both on and off site.

I enjoy working with people who are eager and ready to “feel better and do better” by making some sort of positive change in their lives. I absolutely LOVE working with couples to improve relationships that will ultimately enhance and create stronger family units. I focus on offering individualized therapeutic services tailored to meeting the specific needs and goals of my ideal clients. This means I am flexible in utilizing different treatment approaches and techniques. I believe that with both my professional training as well as some of my own personal experiences, I am uniquely equipped to assist others who are struggling in certain areas, to learn to cope and gain the courage necessary to face and overcome adversity and facilitate change.

My therapy style consists of understanding the past; yet not becoming stuck there and focusing on the present in order to guide the future.

I have experience using trauma-informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution-Focused Therapy approaches. I also have training in Reality Therapy and believe in incorporating Choice Theory and other therapies in practice, when appropriate. I have completed Level 1 training in Gottman's Method Couples Therapy and use that method when working with couples. I am also certified in Prepare/Enrich as a trainer and facilitator and use this framework as well when working with couples. I have knowledge of other treatment modalities and techniques to assist clients in “reaching their destination.”

Personally, I enjoy being a wife, mother, and friend! When I am not with clients, I enjoy shopping, traveling, planning social events, and being a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
