About DeShace
My name is DeShace Short and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Illinois. I obtained my Master’s degree from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. I have a passion for working with people who care about improving their mental health and wellness. When working with ideal clients, I practice using an integrated approach that is tailored to meet the needs of each of my clients. I have experience working with clients who struggle with depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other forms of trauma using client-centered therapy, narrative therapy, and trauma-informed therapeutic interventions. I especially lean towards trauma-informed therapy because often times trauma leads to distress and it is important for clients to process and understand where their experiences come from.
I have previous experience working in social service settings supporting and providing resources for families impacted by the child welfare system. I have worked with children ages 11 and up who may be struggling with their parent’s divorce or experiencing a variety of other issues related to school, home or just simply adjusting to everyday life challenges. I can help provide support to children who would like to process and understand their feelings and learn ways to cope with their symptoms in a therapeutic environment. Although my work has mostly been with the child and adolescent population, I am eager to expand my role in mental health and work with a broader population that includes adolescents and adults.
I would like for my perspective clients to know that all humans struggle with something and can benefit from therapy. I am here to offer a safe space for you to heal and grow!
If you are someone who struggles with depression, trauma, or anxiety, I aim to provide a non-judgmental space to process and learn effective coping skills to get you closer to being a healthier, happier YOU. I want every client I work with to feel supported and to feel a sense of relief and comfort regarding their mental health during our time working together.
Taking the first step to reach out for support can be difficult, but I am looking forward to working with you once you call and get started!
